Life Lessons: Let it Be Easy

Dec 26, 2022

The 1 question that rocked my world this year.

I was on a call with my therapist (this is how many of my aha moments start). I was speaking about some decisions I had to make.  I was seriously spinning my wheels and felt like I was struggling to just keep up in my life.

Light bulb #1 I was searching outside myself to find another credential, another activity, another job/role I should acquire.  I have kept myself busy for the first 40+ years of my life that at some point, I had forgotten what it was I actually love and wanted to do.

I was again chasing ideas and thoughts and "should". I was chasing other people's goals, and ideas of success.  I kept finding reasons why all of these activities, titles were valuable.  The more I did, the more I achieved, the more lost and exhausted I felt.

What I keep repeating in my learning is that what often feels easiest is actually the correct path forward - not the opposite.  Not because it's lazy or because I am not willing to put in the work, but because life and work can also feel fun and in flow. Truth: when I am in flow, even the most difficult tasks are easy.

My therapist and coach in the same week asked me "what would it mean for you to let it be easy?"

I paused for a moment.  Tears welled in my eyes.

In my quest for control, I fight. I resist taking a path that is clearly marked.

I feel the constant need to prove myself to myself and others.

I told myself that if something was worth it - you had to work at it, toil and preserver.

Deep down, I new that when something was the right thing for me, I could pour my heart into it, show up 100%, and it wouldn't feel like work at all.

I was out of alignment.

When we are out of alignment with our own values, goals & intentions, when we keep pushing ourselves to achieve or do things that aren't resonating, it feels off.  It feels hard.  When we are in flow, doing what we love, in the right place at the right time…it feels easy.  We are in harmony, at peace and in ease.

So, ask yourself today what would it mean for you to let it be easy?
